Chairman’s Report
This is my second Chairman’s Report and I must say it’s not my favourite Twinning task but somebody has to do it so here goes.
Since my last effort we have had The Valentines Lunch and I would like to thank John and Dorothy for their excellent fish pie and vegetables, it was very tasty.
The next function was The Greek meal cooked for us by Les and David, thank you both for a lovely meal, which was just a little different from normal. I’d like to thank Janet for the wine and John (Rendle) for being a very attentive wine waiter.
Thanks also to all the helpers who come along to these functions to put up and lay tables, arrange chairs, wash dishes and so on.
Preparations by John Smith are well under way for our trip to Chinon in June. Another invasion of France (on the 75th. Anniversary of D Day June 6th. 1944). Angie has arrangements for the visit by our friends from Hofheim in July well in hand.
I hope to see you at the St. Georges Day lunch on 28th. April. Phil.
Report from John Smith Jnr.
Flushed with their success in conjuring a meal from ingredients purchased solely from IKEA, Les and David volunteered to prepare a Mexican meal for our twinners and their guests. Their offer was immediately accepted and a Sunday in March was selected.
The dynamic duo clearly do not read the minutes of Committee meetings as, by the next time it was mentioned, Mexico had joined the EU and had morphed into Greece. This was either an attempt to display their versatility or the result of forgetfulness (for which Les has a greater excuse than David).
In any event, a menu of baked tomatoes with feta cheese followed by lemon lamb kebabs served on green leaves with potato wedges and a tasty sauce and topped off with Greek (of course) yogurt (with walnuts and strawberries and maple syrup) attracted over 40 people to the Halberton Village Hall on Sunday March 24th.
It was immediately evident that an amazing amount of preparation had been undertaken beforehand even though Les had joined the “Stop BREXIT” march in London the previous day.
The meal was well prepared and cooked and excellently presented. We were fortunate that the Mayor and her consort had not previously opened the bottle of Chinon wine presented to her on our 45th anniversary of our twinning with them.
She generously shared her gift with us enhancing the enjoyment of the meal for us all.
Les mentioned (in the kitchen and before consuming any wine) that he is contemplating a Chinese meal next. There is still Mexico to visit (gastronomically). Is there no limit to that versatility?
Efcharisto, Les and David.
Those that didn’t come to the Valentine Lunch missed a treat, Dorothy and John did an excellent job, the fish pie was lovely and personally I liked the pink roses rather than red that decorated the tables, (red roses were sold out). Thank you to those of you who brought draw prizes, it all made a great event.
Jean

We are now eagerly looking forward to our trip to Chinon in June.
28 members of our Association have confirmed their intention to visit Chinon and I am currently receiving payment of their contributions.
We will be leaving Tiverton in the late afternoon/early evening of Wednesday June 5th. Thanks to Wally, we have permission to leave our cars at the Football Club (provided they are parked along the hedgerow on the left hand side of the car park and as far away as possible from the entrance). As soon as I have the actual departure time, I will contact everyone going.
Blakes will once again be taking us to Chinon. We will travel to Plymouth and there board the Plymouth-Roskoff ferry to sail overnight to France. We will then have a leisurely drive through France on the Thursday, stopping for lunch at our usual watering hole.
We should arrive late that afternoon to be greeted by our hosts.
I have not received any details of our hosts or of the programme. Again, when I know, you will be informed.
We return on Tuesday June 11th. We will need to leave Chinon early that day to catch the afternoon ferry to Plymouth. We should be back in Tiverton late in the evening.
Fortunately, travel insurance has been arranged through Devon Twin Circle but the reporting of health issues has proved to be more problematic than previously.
John
